10 with 5: #2 Honey Biscuits with Chocolate Chip

This is only my second recipe and I'm already out of ideas. I was thinking and thinking. Then I looked in my fridge to see what I had on hand. Not much. Then I thought some more and decided to just wing it.

Winging it does not work for me. Whatever I made did not come out right. Even my brother didn't like it. Should have halved the butter, used sugar instead of honey, and sifted in more flour. I also just remembered that I used Bread Flour and not AP, because that's all I had. Mistake. I think I'll stick to savory and cooked stuff for this challenge, as opposed to sweet baked goods. For the sake of the challenge, I'll post my original recipe with the proportions I used. I don't recommend you make it, but if you do, use caution and common sense.
Makes: 6. Prep time: 15 mins. Bake time: 20 mins.
1 Stick of softened butter
1 egg and 1 yolk
3 tbs honey
1/2 cup bread flour
A handful of choc chips

Preheat oven to 350F
1. Cream softened butter. Add the honey and mix well on high.
2. Break in the egg and mix well. Then add the yolk and incorporate.
3. In goes the flour. Mix on medium-high until your batter looks ready.
4. First, one teaspoon of batter goes in a cupcake liner.

Then you place 4 chocolate chips on it.

And top it off with another teaspoon of batter.

5. 20 minutes in the oven and it's done.

The texture is very biscuit-y. Because of the amount of butter, some of it ended up on the bottom of the cupcake pan. And it's not sweet enough. My brother thought it was bitter, but that's probably the chocolate.

  1. Are you sure they didn't turn out right or do you just have overly high expectations? From what I can see, they look so delicious!I must admit though, that baking is definitely not my strong suit. I may have to stick to cooking as well =)

  2. Thanks! "Don't judge a book by its cover" is a perfect expression for these things, though.

  3. It's good to try new things! Even if they don't come out like you planned! It's very hard to "wing it" when baking since it's more like a scientific formula than a recipe. At least you had the guts to try AND to blog about it!
